We are in 8th grade, and this run is our 8th-grade community project. We go to Harvest Middle School and we are 14 years old. Avelyn is a dancer and dances at Napa Regional. Avelyn loves exploring, cooking, baking reading, helping out, animals, and playing rough. Sophia loves video games, cats, sleeping, taking notes, and not playing as rough. Sophia is the one with the sunglasses, and Avelyn is the one with braids in the photo above.
What is the eighth grade community project? The eighth grade community is a project that thirteen and fourteen year old's do in Harvest Middle School. This is a project that the students contribute to the community, these projects can vary You can practically do anything as long as you help others. You can give to the poor, help the homeless, raise money, for something or even just be there for someone to talk to.
Our goal is to raise one thousand dollars towards the Michael J. Fox Foundation so they can provide for patients and perform research to find a cure for Parkinson's. This website is reliable and we are giving money because we truly want the patients for this disease to recover, instead of maintaining with it while they grow old.
For me this run is more than a community project. My grandpa was diagnosed with Parkinson's around 13 years ago. The side affects of Parkinson's came in slowly. He lost all sense of smell and his taste was dulled. A couple months ago he passed away from the disease. This run means so much to me and my family it will not only help the people with Parkinson's, but it will also help the families that are dreading the answer. It is tough reading the amounts of losses that have occurred because of Parkinson's and knowing more are added each day. It would mean a lot to my family and millions of others if you came or just donated to the cause.
How has Parkinson's affected me? Unlike Avelyn I have never had any family issues when it came to Parkinson's, I never really thought about it until now when my partner introduced it to me as a community project. I agreed with her because I wanted to be a good friend and support her. However, now I understand what it really is, I never really looked into what Parkinson's was, I always took a simple glimpse into this disease, but I never took time to research it in a deep matter. Now I know what this is and what it really means to my partner, this saddens my heart to know that there are people out there that have an incurable disease, and are suffering every day. That is why I want to help spread awareness and raise money to stop this, and put smiles onto people's faces.
